Looking to travel outside of areas like Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga, or Clarksville for hunting? You’re in for a thrilling adventure with Garia Bay Outfitters. While Tennessee’s hills and forests are rich in wildlife, our guided black bear hunts and Canadian moose safaris take you even farther into expansive, untamed wilderness for challenge, connection, and memories that last.

Best Moose and Bear Hunting Hunts for Tennessee

Tennessee hunters craving bigger trophies and new terrain will love our Canadian moose and black bear hunts, paired with Atlantic salmon fishing trips in Newfoundland. Guided by highly experienced outfitters, every trip emphasizes safety, sustainability, and unforgettable wilderness storytelling.

Tennessee divides black bear hunting into designated Bear Hunt Zones (BHZ 1–5 + Transitional), with seasons managed across archery, dog-assisted, and firearm hunts. Regulations include strict baiting restrictions and mandatory tooth submission. While Tennessee offers good opportunities, many hunters prefer heading north, where populations are denser and trophy opportunities larger.

Tennessee Moose Hunting in Newfoundland

Tennessee hunters won’t find moose within state lines. There are no moose populations or regulated seasons there. For those seeking a bigger challenge and a true trophy experience, our guided Canadian moose hunts in Newfoundland are the answer. With an estimated population of over 120,000 moose, Newfoundland offers one of the most concentrated and consistent hunting experiences in North America.

Our hunts boast success rates around 80%, and the moose we pursue often have antler spreads reaching 40 to 60 inches or more. Moose hunting isn’t just a trip; it’s a milestone. And we’re here to help you check it off the list.

Black Bear Hunting for Tennessee Residents

Black bear hunting is legal in Tennessee, but it’s highly regulated and geographically limited. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) divides the state into five primary Bear Hunt Zones (BHZs), each with its own season dates, weapon restrictions, and bag limits. Because of these tight restrictions and the smaller bear population, many Tennessee hunters head north for a more fruitful experience.

Newfoundland is home to more than 10,000 black bears, and our clients regularly encounter and hunt mature black bears ranging from 300 to 600 pounds. Our bear season provides longer hunting windows and increased opportunity for success. The terrain is wild and scenic, with no baiting restrictions and plenty of space to pursue big game.

Trophy Atlantic Salmon Fishing for Tennessee Anglers

Tennessee is known for its rich fishing opportunities. But Atlantic salmon is quite rare and uncommon. These powerful, migratory fish require cold, fast-moving northern rivers to populate.

At Garia Bay Outfitters, we offer fully guided salmon fishing trips in remote, crystal-clear rivers where the salmon routinely top 20 pounds. Tennessee anglers love the challenge: using fly gear to battle strong fish in fast current is a whole different game than reeling in bass from a reservoir. You’ll fish in waters so clean and quiet you can hear the breeze in the trees and the splash of a rising salmon in the distance. Escape the crowds and experience the culture of Atlantic salmon fishing firsthand.

FAQs From Our Georgia Hunters

Garia Bay Outfitters welcomes Tennessee hunters to Newfoundland for fully guided moose and black bear hunts in some of the most remote, pristine wilderness in North America.

  • Moose hunting: Newfoundland is home to one of the densest moose populations on the continent, and our guided hunts give you the chance to pursue mature moose weighing over 1,200 pounds. Many sport antlers spread between 40 and 60 inches, making them true trophies.
  • Black bear hunting: Black bears in our region are plentiful, and our clients often encounter animals in the 300 to 500-pound range, with the occasional bear tipping the scales above 600 pounds. Longer seasons and fewer restrictions offer more flexibility and better opportunities compared to Tennessee’s limited bear zones.

We make the entire process easy and satisfying. It’s the kind of hunting trip that Tennessee sportsmen talk about for years.

Black bear hunting is legal in Tennessee, but it’s far more regulated and geographically restricted than in Newfoundland. Most of Tennessee’s bear hunts occur in the eastern portion of the state, particularly in the Appalachian region and Great Smoky Mountains.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has divided the state into five Bear Hunt Zones (BHZs), each with its own specific season dates, permitted weapons, and harvest rules. Tennessee hunters are limited to one bear per year, and strict regulations are in place: no cubs or females with cubs may be taken, and baiting is prohibited unless removed at least ten days prior to the hunt. Additionally, all harvested bears must be reported, and a tooth must be submitted for age verification. Minimum weight requirements may also apply, depending on the zone.

In contrast, Newfoundland offers a more expansive, higher-yield experience. Seasons are longer, bear densities are much higher, and success rates are significantly better. With fewer restrictions and more accessible terrain, Newfoundland presents a rare opportunity for Tennessee hunters to pursue larger, mature bears.

No. Tennessee has no moose population or season. Moose hunting must be done in places like Canada through outfitters like us!

Yes. Non-residents need a Canadian hunting license and bear tag. Our outfitter will secure those for you before arrival.

Yes, Tennessee hunters can bring firearms into Canada for hunting, but there are Canadian firearm import/export processes to follow. To legally transport your firearm into Canada, you’ll need to complete a Non-Resident Firearm Declaration (Form RCMP 5589). This form serves as your temporary license and registration while hunting in Canada. You can fill it out in advance, but it must be signed in front of a Canadian border officer. We’ll walk you through the entire process to make it easy, from guidance on paperwork to travel tips.

For moose hunting, most of our Tennessee hunters prefer high-powered rifles like .300 Winchester Magnum, .338 Winchester Magnum, or similar calibers that offer the stopping power needed for such a large animal. For black bear hunts, reliable mid-to-large calibers such as .30-06 Springfield or .30-30 Winchester are often recommended for clean, ethical shots.

Expect rugged terrain and colder weather. Pack layered clothing, waterproof boots, and Canada-specific hunting licenses. We’ll aid with travel logistics, firearm transport documents, and gear staging.

Atlantic salmon fishing in Canada is technical casting, large migratory fish in cold rivers, very different from Tennessee’s bass, catfish, and trout. You’ll fish quiet streams, chase 20 lb+ salmon, and immerse yourself in wild scenery.
